Eco Web Hosting’s Sustainability Report for October 2022

As part of our ongoing commitment to our customers and the planet, we publish reports that update our readers on our sustainability progress each month. In October, we planted over 5,600 trees and funded two more Gold Standard projects.

Over 5,400 trees planted for our customers

For each web hosting, Managed WordPress, and VPS package our customers hold, we plant trees through Eden Reforestation Projects. This month, we planted 5,453 trees in three locations.

In Haiti, they are rebuilding mangrove forests along the coastline, as well as planting fruit trees in towns and villages to build up food security and the local economy. In Indonesia, they are planting mangroves on Biak Island, rebuilding shoreline forests severely damaged by clear-cutting, storms, and tsunamis. And in Nepal, they are planting trees in the mountains and the grasslands to help reduce erosion and helping to create a buffer zone around the Chitwan National Park, providing further protection for wildlife.

Over 150 trees planted for our employees

Each month, we also offset our employees’ carbon footprints by funding tree-planting and sustainability projects through Ecologi as well as adding an extra 100 trees with Eden Reforestation Projects.

This month, Ecologi planted 17 mangroves in their Madagascar project, 11 trees as part of their forest restoration projects in the Mau region and the Dundori Forest of Kenya, 10 new trees in their Zambezia project, 6 trees in Tanzania, 3 trees in forest gardens in Uganda, 2 more trees in Morocco, one tree in a new project in Argentina, and an oak tree in Scotland.

We also planted another mangrove in Madagascar thanks to Tree-Nation, offsetting our carbon emissions from our website.

Protecting biodiversity in southeast Peru

Ecologi also funds Gold Standard Projects for us, and this month, they’re helping to protect the Tambopata National Reserve and the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park in Peru. This project is designed to financially help local communities into more sustainable industries, reducing the need for clear-cutting. This will protect these valuable rainforests, including many endangered species.

Funding windfarms in Thailand

Ecologi is also helping Thailand build windfarms in the Nakhonratchasima province of Thailand, creating 90 megawatts of energy annually that would be otherwise created by burning fossil fuels. Built across the Nongwang, Bueng Prue and Samnaktakhro subdistricts of the Thepharak district, these wind farms will not only produce electricity for Thailand’s national grid but will also create jobs for the local community.

Through our tree planting and project funding, we have reduced our carbon footprint by another 226 tonnes, making it over 6,680 tonnes since we started. This is the equivalent of nearly 8,500 tonnes of rubbish being recycled instead of going to landfill, over 12,300 metric tonnes of coal not being burned, over 10,400,000 litres of petrol not being used, and over 20 kilometres squared of sea ice being saved.

We’ll keep you updated every month with our latest statistics on our blog and on our Green Credentials page. We hope you’re happy to see the work we’ve done.
